History:

Fifty English Electric Type 4s were built at its Vulcan Foundry works during 1967/8 for express passenger work on the yet-to-be-electrified section of the West Coast Main Line north of Crewe. Entering service in January 1968, D403 first operated in BR blue with small twin-arrows insignia on its cab-sides, as depicted by the model.

Under TOPS in 1974, the Type 4s were designated Class 50 and received new numbers, this one becoming No. 50003 and given the name ‘Temeraire’ in May 1978. With completion of the WCML electrification in 1974, the class were relocated to the south-west. No. 50003 was withdrawn in July 1991 and scrapped the following year.
