USS Gerald R Ford CVN-78 is the lead ship of the U.S. Navy's Ford-class aircraft carriers, designed with advanced technology to improve efficiency and combat capability. At 100,000 tons Ford is the largest warship in the world. Commissioned in 2017 and operational from December 2021, Ford features a larger flight deck, electromagnetic aircraft launch system (EMALS), and advanced arresting gear, enabling faster and more flexible aircraft operations. With improved automation, Ford reduces crew requirements and operational costs compared to previous carriers.
