Four Sizes to Suit Your Project

Our diorama baseboards are available in a range of sizes, whether you're planning a compact display or a larger scenic section.

• 600mm Long: Ideal for compact dioramas, individual locomotive displays and small scenic projects.

• 800mm Long: Perfect for detailed countryside scenes, stations, buildings and miniature landscapes.

• 1000mm Long: Provides additional space for more elaborate railway scenes, sidings and industrial displays.

• 1200mm Long: Ideal for larger scenic projects, exhibition displays and extended railway scenes.

Each length is available with a choice of 400mm or 600mm depth, allowing you to select the appropriate space for your track, buildings, scenery and other features.

Three Backscene Panel Configurations

The Layout Concepts Diorama Baseboard range is available in three configurations, giving you the freedom to create an individual display or combine multiple sections into a larger layout.

• Left End & Rear: Features an upright rear panel and an enclosed left-hand end, making it ideal for the left-hand side of a scenic display.

• Rear Only: Features an upright rear panel with open sides, ideal for standalone dioramas or middle sections of a larger modular display.

• Right End & Rear: Features an upright rear panel and an enclosed right-hand end, making it ideal for completing the right-hand side of a display.

By combining different configurations, you can create a continuous scenic railway display with consistent backscene positioning and neatly finished ends.

Every diorama baseboard features an upright rear panel with a viewable backscene height of 381mm (15 inches), providing the perfect backdrop for your miniature world.

The rear panel is particularly well suited to the popular ID Backscenes range, allowing you to add professional photographic backgrounds to your layout.

Choose from countryside landscapes, rolling hills, towns, industrial settings and many other scenes, or paint your own background to create something completely unique.

A well-chosen backscene adds depth and realism to your display, helping to create the illusion that your railway or miniature scene continues far beyond the edge of the baseboard.

The optional end panels further enhance this effect by framing your scene and providing an attractive, enclosed appearance.

Manufactured from high-quality 12mm poplar plywood, Layout Concepts Diorama Baseboards offer excellent strength and stability without unnecessary weight.

Each component is precision laser-cut for accurate fitting and straightforward assembly, removing much of the measuring, cutting and preparation normally involved in building a baseboard from scratch.

The result is a sturdy, professionally constructed foundation, ready for you to add your chosen track, buildings, scenery and finishing details.

Modular Design & Optional Alignment Dowels

Planning to expand your diorama into a larger display?

Our modular baseboard range allows you to combine compatible sections to create longer scenic displays and model railway layouts.

For accurate positioning between adjoining baseboards, Layout Concepts Alignment Dowels are available separately. These help locate adjoining sections when assembling or reconnecting a modular layout.

Please note: Alignment dowels are not included as standard and must be added to your order separately.

Optional Baseboard Legs

For freestanding layouts and exhibition displays, we also offer matching Layout Concepts Baseboard Legs, manufactured from 12mm poplar plywood.

The legs measure 988mm in height, giving an overall layout height of approximately 1000mm when combined with the 12mm baseboard.

This provides a practical viewing height for scenic displays and model railway exhibitions.
