Watch: TMC wheel cleaner performance tested
Say goodbye to dirty wheels with our exclusive range of wheel cleaners developed with quality phosphor bronze brushes for all common modelling scales.
We gave a sample to World of Railway's Steven Draper to help him tackle poor running from dirty wheels on his locomotive. Watch the video below to learn more...

Our new Powered Wheel Cleaner range, designed to keep model locomotives performing at their best across all popular scales. The range supports N, OO9, TT:120, HO, OO, S, NG7, On30 and O gauges, making it one of the most versatile powered wheel cleaning solutions currently available. All items are in stock now and available for immediate dispatch.
Poor running performance is one of the most common frustrations faced by railway modellers, with dirty wheels frequently responsible for hesitation and stalling. Worse, with DCC control, it can create obvious sound dropouts, too. Our new wheel cleaner range has been developed to tackle this issue quickly, effectively and more affordably — without compromise.

Designed by modellers, for modellers
The TMC Powered Wheel Cleaner range removes stubborn, built-up grime in seconds. Simply connect the unit to a power source, place the locomotive on the conductive brushes, and allow the turning wheels to clean themselves. Units have side-mounted terminal screws for simple electrical connectivity, while mounting holes allow units to be permanently fixed in position – to a workbench or adjacent to the layout, for instance. Alternatively, units can be placed atop rails and powered from the track accordingly.
Benefits of the new range include:
• Rapid removal of accumulated wheel dirt
• Improved power pick-up and slow-speed control
• Simple, hands-on operation with no harsh chemicals
• Modular design to accommodate everything from small shunters to long articulated locomotives
• Replacement brushes available to ensure long service life

A modular solution for every collection
Each cleaner is designed to be modular, allowing multiple units to be connected. This makes it possible to clean even the longest of locomotive wheelbases — even large articulated ‘Garratt’ locomotives — with all wheels cleaned simultaneously.
Available options and prices:
• N, TT & narrow-gauge cleaner – £22.75
• OO, HO, S & On30 cleaner – £23.95
• O gauge cleaner – £39.95
• Replacement brushes (all scales) – £19.95
For O gauge modellers, twin and quad pack options offer added value and flexibility:
• O gauge twin pack – £59.99
• O gauge twin pack with spacers – £74.99
• O gauge four pack with spacers – £129.99
“Smooth, reliable operation starts with clean wheels,” said TMC’s Howard Smith.
“Our new powered wheel cleaners make routine maintenance faster and easier, allowing buyers to restore performance across their entire motive power fleet with minimal effort. These powered devices allow modellers to keep models upright and reduce handling. Too often detail on modern RTR locomotives is crushed or caught in the foam of old locomotive cradles when cleaning wheels by hand. We examined other solutions on the market and created our own design-improved range at a more affordable price without compromising on quality.”
