76CP005 Oxford Diecast Ford Capri MK1 Light Blue/Nevilles Car (Auf W) 1:76

Ford introduced the fastback Ford Capri Mk I into the UK market in 1968 and it was an instant success. It was designed by Ford’s American designer Philip T Clark who had been instrumental in the development of the Ford Mustang. Say no more! The Capri’s performance, affordability and good looks were to give it cult status. It had a four speed manual gearbox and came with either a 1.3L or 1.6L engine.

Making its fifth appearance in 1:76 scale, our Ford Capri Mk I is decorated in light blue and registered STV 709H from 1969. Exterior trim is applied in silver and chrome with black masking to the front grille. The interior seating is moulded in black, including the dashboard.

For those fans of the 1980s comedy series Au Wiedersehen Pet following the fortunes or otherwise of a group of out of work hopefuls who ended up in Germany, you may recall Neville, the newlywed ‘chippie’, with such a Capri Mk I. Who was the bigger star? we ask.

76MAZ003 Oxford Diecast Mazda MX5 (Open) Mariner Blue 1:76

Making its third entrance in the series, Oxford’s Mazda MX-5 Mk. 1 appears with hood down in a striking bright blue, registered G750 SMX from 1989, the first year of its production. The interior and the majority of the trim are all black, while the distinctive wheels are treated to a silver finish.

The Japanese motor manufacturing company launched the Mazda MX-5 as a lightweight, two–person sports car in 1989 at the Chicago Auto Show at a time when small ‘roadsters’ had virtually disappeared, so it was an instant hit and has remained so ever since, earning it the accolade of the best selling two-seat convertible sports car in sports car history. The Mk. 1 sold 228,961 models between 1989 and 1997 when it was superseded by the Mk II. Assembled in Japan at the Mazda Hiroshima Plant, the Mk. 1 came with a front mid-engine, rear-wheel drive and a Mazda N Platform. Initially, it featured a 1.6L inline-four-engine, 116 hp. In late 1993 a larger 1.8 litre engine was introduced. Each generation carried a two-letter identification, the Mk. 1 being NA. Pop-up headlights were unique to the NA (Mk. 1) and it also had slim chrome door handles reminiscent of early British roadsters. Neither power steering nor power brakes were issued on the base models to keep both the weight and the price down. A five-speed manual transmission was standard but the car had an option of a four-speed automatic as well.

76SFT006 Oxford Diecast 1:76 Scale Standard Flying Twelve Fawn

It’s back to the late 1930s for the Standard Flying Twelve which was first unveiled at the 1935 Motor Show before entering production in 1937. It was considered pretty streamlined for its time with sloping back, rear side quarter lights and sloping ‘waterfall’ radiator grille. It was pretty powerful too with a 1608cc side valve engine. The four-door saloon remained in production until 1940.

Registered CRL 882, and appearing in a biscuit shade with silver trim and copper brown wheel inserts. The elaborate radiator grille is masked silver and incorporates two low placed front lights with two more headlights fitted on the wings. The interior including the seating is also copper brown.

76VWB008 Oxford Diecast 1:76 OO Gauge VW Beetle Lotus White Volkswagen Beetle

If you are a Beatles fan and lucky enough to have their Abbey Road album, take another look at the record sleeve and you will see a white VW Beetle parked in the background, with the Fab Four progressing across the famous zebra crossing to the Abbey Road Studios. The car belonged to a nearby resident of Abbey Road at the time of the photo-shoot on 8th August 1969.

The car is now further immortalised as here at Oxford, our latest release on our 1:76 scale VW is that very vehicle! Registered LMW 281 from 1967/68, it is decorated in its original Lotus White colour scheme with black interior and chrome exterior finish. Quite ordinary in normal circumstances but its provenance has given it celebrity status. The real thing was re-discovered in a car showroom in St Albans in 1986 by the owner of a local musical instrument shop, who snapped it up, realising the car salesman had no idea of its history and more importantly, its potential value.

This a 1:76 (00) scale model for collectors, modellers and it also makes a great gift. It comes on a plinth, with a clear case lid and Oxford Automobile wrap.

76J4007 Oxford Diecast Austin-Morris J4 Van Blue 1:76

The Morris Commercial J4 van was a 10 cwt (0.5 ton) forward control van which Morris Commercial launched in 1960. It quickly became the ‘go to’ vehicle for deliveries due to its style and capacity. As a result it was a familiar sight on UK roads decorated in the likes of Royal Mail, British Rail, the Police as well as by smaller firms as a general utility vehicle.

Painted in a rich blue with no livery at all and so the effect focuses the eye on its styling. The silver exterior trim takes in the distinctive radiator grille, above which the Austin badge is printed in red on silver. BMC of which Austin was also part, interchanged the Austin and Morris marques by using different badges, radiator grilles etc, one of which carried through to the J van as seen on this model.

Registered 2417 BP, this version has dark blue wheels to match the body colour while the interior is moulded in black with dark blue dashboard. The double doors at the back would have made loading and unloading easy and the two small back windows incorporate a glazed effect, adding even more realism.

76LR3S008 Oxford Diecast Land Rover Series III Royal Mail 1:76

This short wheelbase Land Rover Series III proved highly popular when Oxford first released it in 1:43 scale. It now makes its 1:76 scale appearance in exactly the same Royal Mail livery. It is decorated in bright pillar box red with a white roof and black interior, registered MFS 345P from 1975. The number plate is fixed to the centre of the grille on this release and there is also an additional board fixed to the white bumper printed KINGIE. The exterior is also finished with contrasting silver trim.

The Series 3 Land Rover was manufactured between 1971 and 1985 and was the most popular of the Series vehicles with Land Rover producing over 440,000 of them. It had a 4-speed gearbox with a selectable 4-wheel drive option and a choice of petrol or diesel fuel.

Royal Mail used specially adapted Land Rovers incorporating a closed rear section with large windows for better visibility of the mail being transported. The rear compartment was designed to accommodate postal workers and their mailbags securely. The vehicle also had additional storage compartments for sorting mail and carrying postal equipment. True to Land Rover tradition, it was also most suitable for traversing rough ground to access rural and isolated locations.

76MET003 Oxford Diecast 1:76 Scale Austin Mini Metro British School of Motoring (BSM)

Oxford’s Austin Mini Metro adds a bit of variety to the mix with this latest BSM livery, a familiar sight on the 1980s roads. How many experienced drivers have had to exercise patience when behind one of these in its day?

Learner drivers of the 1980s would have found the Austin Mini Metro a very easy car to test their ability. It came as a 3-door hatchback - the subject of this Oxford tooling – or a 5 door model. The engine size was either a 1.0L or 1.3L with a 4-speed manual gearbox. The Mini Metro had front wheel drive and a top speed of 84 mph and if you were practising three point turns, reversing round corners or parking, it was very compact and easy to park, so was a particular favourite. The livery is pure nostalgia!

The bright red body colour has a wide blue and white flash along the sides incorporating an outline of the map of Great Britain with white BSM lettering beneath. The red roof features the BSM L Driver beacon while along the line of the boot is their famous slogan Every SEVEN minutes someone passes with BSM. The interior of the car is moulded in black and it is registered KWC 332Y from 1982. The British School of Motoring still exists today although now under the auspices of the Automobile Association, offering driving lessons and instructor training amongst other things.

76VW024 Oxford Diecast VW Bay Window Bus/Surfboards Montana Red/White - 1:76 S

This version of the VW van in its bay window bus format is particularly popular with 'surfies' who never mind the weather when heading off to the coast. In fact, the windier the better! Its latest miniature version is also off to catch the surf, possibly down the Gower! Decorated in two tone red and white, with beige interior, it carries the special modification to the roof comprising a slatted tan roof board with silver framework and two bright blue and white surfboards. Registered KXG 347G in 1967, the model also faithfully replicates the silver Volkswagen lettering across the back and the VW badge on the front.

76DXF005 Oxford Diecast 1:76 Scale OO Gauge DAF XF Euro 6 Houghton Parkhouse Livestock Transporter Bert Christie

Oxford has released some very colourful miniatures of the Houghton Parkhouse ‘Professional’ Livestock Transporter and this release on the DF XF Euro 6 is no exception. This time it hails from Boyndie, near Portsoy, Aberdeenshire, the base of Bert Christie Livestock Haulage.

Bert, born in 1946, was raised in a farming family so knew livestock very well. In his early twenties, he joined a livestock haulage firm as a driver with whom he spent the next 30 years until being made redundant. In 1997, he saw an opportunity to set up his own business and now, partnered by his son Neil, he runs his livestock haulage business throughout the UK, primarily using DAF XF trucks, all dressed in this bright red and silver livery.

Here we present the Bert Christie DAF XF Euro 6, aptly registered B7ERT. The red body carries bold silver masking - note particularly the grand silver sweeps of colour on the cab. Exterior trim is also silver and black while black and silver drop shadow company lettering is printed on both the cab and the trailer. The cab interior is also moulded in black. We love especially the Muckle Coo (Highland Cow) on the back of the trailer, decorated colourfully and with its characteristic enormous horns and shaggy coat, accompanied by a dear little calf against a snow-filled background.
