Rapido Trains UK has announced a new range of 'OO' Great Western Railway covered wagons, covering the G31 and G43 'MOGO', X9 'MICA A' and V32 'TEVAN' diagrams. The range comprises 32 individually numbered models spanning GWR and British Railways liveries, including preserved and BR Engineers examples.

The models feature body-specific tooling, separately fitted details, metal bearings, NEM coupling pockets and a choice of disc or spoked wheels. Models carry an RRP of £32.95 each, but can be pre-ordered from TMC at £28.01 each.

'MICA A' and 'TEVAN'

Introduced in 1930, the GWR Diagram X9 'MICA A' was an insulated van designed for transporting meat. Built on a 17ft 6in RCH-compliant underframe with a 10ft wheelbase, the wagons used roof-mounted ice tanks and cork insulation to keep loads cool. As refrigerated transport evolved, many were converted to Diagram V32 TEVANs for carrying tea and cocoa between Bristol and London. Both types remained in white livery through the GWR and BR eras, although none survived into preservation.

G31 and G43 'MOGO'

The G31 'MOGO' (Motorcar Goods Wagon) entered service in 1933 to transport motor vehicles while remaining suitable for general merchandise traffic. End doors allowed cars to be driven through trains during loading, while side doors and end vents enabled wider freight use. A revised plywood-bodied G43 version followed in 1946. Both types continued in BR service until the 1960s, with several surviving in preservation today.

Model range

Rapido's new tooling covers all four wagon types with the appropriate body variations and detail differences. The range includes 17 G31/G43 MOGO models and 15 X9 MICA A/V32 TEVAN models in GWR and BR liveries, including BR Engineering and preserved examples where applicable. Every model features separately fitted parts, brass bearings and NEM coupling pockets.
