History
The British Railways 21-ton hopper wagon traces its origins to the LNER-designed 20-ton hoppers first introduced in 1935. These early designs laid the foundation for what would become a vast fleet of over 9,000 wagons built by various manufacturers by the time of nationalisation in 1948.
Post-nationalisation, British Railways continued developing the design, ultimately producing more than 23,000 wagons. These were known under various classifications and names, including 21-ton hoppers, HOP21s, and HTOs for the unfitted versions, while HOP21VB and HTV denoted vacuum-fitted variants.
Accurascales latest release in the "Powering Britain" range of coal wagons celebrates this later development, capturing the details of the vacuum-fitted variant with historical accuracy and authenticity.
