The GWR Saint Class (introduced 1902) were influential 4-6-0 express passenger locomotives whose development informed later 'Saint' and 'Castle' designs. Saint David (No. 2920) represents that Great Western tradition of elegant, fast passenger engines built for main-line duties.

The J52 family (originally Great Northern designs and subsequently standardised) were small saddle-tank shunters and short-trip engines used widely for yard and local duties across the network — ideal modelling subjects for goods yards and industrial scenes.
