The first engineering samples of TMC's exclusive TT:120 BR 'Blue Spot' fish vans have arrived, marking an exciting milestone in our collaboration with Rapido Trains UK.

Developed exclusively for The Model Centre, these British Railways Diagram 1/801 vans will bring a versatile and distinctive piece of railway history to TT:120.

First engineering samples revealed

The new samples allow us to assess the tooling, body details, underframe components and overall construction ahead of production. The range is expected during Q2 2027, subject to production schedules.

Please note: These early samples combine components from different tooling variations and do not represent individual finished models. Some details and features remain subject to change.

From fish trains to departmental workhorses

Built between 1960 and 1961, the 558 Diagram 1/801 vans were originally designed to transport fresh fish from Britain's fishing ports to markets nationwide.

Featuring roller-bearing axleboxes, vacuum braking and distinctive blue spot markings, they were capable of operating at up to 60mph.

As fish traffic declined, many found new roles carrying parcels, while others became departmental vehicles, including barrier vans and support stock for breakdown cranes.

From fresh fish traffic to grimy engineering duties, these vans offer decades of modelling possibilities.
