A railway recovery classic
Cowans Sheldon introduced its standard 15T steam crane during the 1890s. Mounted on a 4-4-0 rail chassis, the design was capable of lifting 15T at a radius of around 20ft when supported by its outriggers. The cranes quickly proved popular, finding homes with numerous pre-grouping railway companies before passing into the fleets of the GWR, LMS, LNER and later British Railways.
Their versatility ensured exceptionally long service lives, with many remaining in traffic until the late 1960s. Two principal jib styles were produced – curved and swan-neck – making Cowans Sheldon cranes a familiar sight at derailments, engineering possessions and locomotive depots throughout the steam era and into the early diesel period.

Each model includes a working, poseable crane arm and jib, a Midland Railway pattern match truck, separately fitted detail parts and finely applied livery decoration.
