We're pleased to welcome these much-anticipated plastic kits from Airfix, being delivered imminently:

HMS Suffolk

Airfix's (A03203V) HMS Suffolk in 1:600 scale builds into a respectable plastic model kit of the Royal Navy County-class heavy cruiser from WWII.

It’s part of Airfix’s Vintage Classics range, meaning it’s a reissue of an older, much-loved tooling—updated for modern release, but retaining its classic character.

HMS Suffolk had a fascinating history being commissioned in 1928 and serving across multiple theatres in WWII. It played a key role in tracking the German battleship Bismarck in 1941, using early radar to maintain contact during the famous chase. That last point makes it especially appealing, taking part in one of the most famous naval stories ever!

The kit has approximately 128 parts (requires glue & paint), decals and an instruction sheet with two paint schemes (1941 wartime configuration and pre-war/China Station scheme.

At 32cm long, it builds into a respectable size without being overwhelming.

Because it’s a Vintage Classics kit, expect:

  • Simpler engineering than brand-new toolings
  • Slightly softer detail in places
  • But also a very approachable, satisfying build

🛠️ Build & difficulty

  • Skill Level: 2 (beginner–intermediate)
  • Build time: a few hours to a weekend project
  • Straightforward assembly, but with enough detail to enjoy painting and finishing

Here’s a smoother, more streamlined overview of **Airfix A05203V Prinz Eugen 1:600 Kit**, without all the stop-start sections.

Prinz Eugen

Airfix's (A05203V) Prinz Eugen is a 1:600 scale model of the German heavy cruiser, also reissued as part of the Vintage Classics range. Using the well-loved older tooling, it's now brought back with modern packaging, but still retains the straightforward build style and character of classic Airfix kits.

Prinz Eugen operated alongside Bismarck and took part in the Battle of the Denmark Strait in 1941, one of the most famous naval engagements of the Second World War. After the war, it survived long enough to be used in atomic bomb tests at Bikini Atoll—giving the ship a uniquely dramatic history that adds appeal to the model.

In the box, you get around 150 parts, making up a model roughly 35cm long when complete. It’s a comfortable intermediate-level build—more involved than entry-level kits, but still very manageable over a few sessions. The engineering is simple and logical and provides a solid foundation for painting and finishing, with plenty of scope for weathering, detailing, and even adding your own enhancements like rigging or aftermarket parts. Two paint schemes are included, allowing you to represent the ship at different stages of its wartime career.

Overall, this is a model that balances accessibility, history, and display presence very well. It’s large enough to stand out, affordable enough to be an easy addition to the stash, and interesting enough to reward the effort you put into finishing it. Whether you’re building your first ship or adding another classic to your collection, Prinz Eugen is a subject that won't disappoint.

SR.N4 Hovercraft

Airfix's SR.N4 Mountbatten-class hovercraft (A09171V) captures one of the most ambitious and futuristic transport designs ever to enter commercial service. Reissued as part of the Vintage Classics range, this kit brings back a true symbol of late-20th-century British engineering in a format that’s both distinctive and highly displayable.

SR.N4 was a revolution in cross-Channel travel. Entering service in the late 1960s, it connected the UK and France at speeds exceeding 60 knots, carrying cars, passengers, and even coaches across the water in little more than half an hour. Powered by four Rolls-Royce Proteus gas turbine engines and riding on a cushion of air, it could travel seamlessly between land and sea, creating an experience that was as dramatic as it was rapid. At the time, it was the largest passenger hovercraft built—a title it still holds today.

In model form, the kit is produced in 1:144 scale, offering a sizeable and eye-catching subject that stands apart from more traditional aircraft or ship builds. As a Vintage Classics reissue—originally first released in 1970—it reflects classic Airfix design, with straightforward construction and a focus on capturing the overall shape and presence of the real craft.

That simplicity is part of its appeal. The build is approachable and enjoyable, making it suitable for a wide range of modellers, while still leaving scope for painting and finishing. The SR.N4’s bold shape, large deck areas, and distinctive skirt and propulsion layout make it particularly rewarding to bring to life with careful detailing and weathering.

What really sets this kit apart is its subject matter. Unlike more common military vehicles or aircraft, SR.N4 represents a unique chapter in transport history—a time when hovercraft were seen as the future of travel. Its scale, presence, and sheer novelty make it a standout addition to any collection.

If you’re looking for something different, something that sparks conversation as much as it rewards building—this is a kit that delivers exactly that.

Churchill Mk.VII

The Airfix's (A01304V) Churchill Mk.VII brings to life one of Britain’s most recognisable and heavily armoured infantry tanks of the Second World War. Also reissued as part of the Vintage Classics range, this kit combines historical significance with the charm of classic Airfix tooling, offering a straightforward and nostalgic build experience.

The real Churchill tank earned its reputation not through speed, but through resilience. Introduced in 1941, it was designed to support infantry across difficult terrain, with thick armour and strong cross-country capability. The Mk.VII variant represented a major upgrade, featuring reinforced frontal armour and a 75mm gun, and saw action during the Normandy campaign in 1944, where its durability made it a dependable asset on the battlefield.

In model form, the kit is produced in 1:76 scale and consists of 104 parts, resulting in a compact finished model around 94mm in length. It sits at skill level two, making it an accessible project for beginners while still offering enough detail to keep more experienced modellers engaged. As with other Vintage Classics releases, the tooling dates back to the early 1960s, giving it a slightly simpler style compared to modern kits—but also a distinctive character that many builders appreciate.

You'll find the build straightforward and rewarding, with clean assembly and a single historical scheme included. While fine details such as tracks and smaller components reflect the kit’s vintage origins, this also makes it an excellent canvas for painting, weathering, and personal enhancement.

Overall, the Churchill Mk.VII is a compact and affordable kit that fits easily into any collection. It’s particularly well suited to those looking to explore military modelling, revisit classic Airfix kits, or simply enjoy a satisfying build with real historical presence.
