Accurascale 'Buckjumpers' inbound!
We’re thrilled to announce the imminent arrival of the long-awaited Accurascale J69 ‘Buckjumper’ 0-6-0T locomotives, expected to arrive next week.
These charming and powerful little tank engines offer proportions that look ‘just right’ and are fondly regarded by many modellers and collectors, particularly those with an interest in Great Eastern, LNER, or early British Railways operations.
Brief history
An early scan of preserved J69 No. 87 at Bressingham Steam Museum and Gardens, Norfolk, used in the development of the Accurascale model.
The J69s – affectionately nicknamed ‘Buckjumpers’ due to their lively ride – were a class of compact tank engines originally built for the Great Eastern Railway by Stratford Works, designed by T.W. Worsdell and later refined by James Holden. Their robust performance and compact size made them ideal for light passenger work, shunting, and dockyard duties.
Their service life stretched from the 1890s right through to the 1960s, making them incredibly versatile for layouts spanning pre-grouping, LNER, and BR periods.
A special model
Accurascale’s foray into steam-outline models has hit the ground running. The J69 models combine authentic, era-specific detailing with what is expected to be outstanding performance.
Choose from a selection of liveries including: GER blue LNER black (pre- and post-war styles) BR early crest and late crest.
Highlights include:
- Heavy diecast chassis and high-torque motor
- Next18 DCC socket and factory DCC sound options
- Super-fine rivet and pipe detail, especially on the tanks and cab
- Multiple versions representing GER, LNER, and BR variants – including subtle differences in domes, safety valves, buffer types, and coal rails
- Firebox glow, cab detail, and sprung buffers as standard
These locomotives are expected to perform very well, with smooth running, excellent low-speed control, and reliable pick-up across pointwork. Whether you're modelling East Anglia, London dockyards, or general branch line scenes, the J69 is the perfect workhorse to bring your layout to life.
Available here with prices start from £139.99 for analogue to £229.99 for DCC sound-fitted versions.
