Product Description

NEW SMOKE STACK from the TMC Workshop

TMC are converting 50 models and would therefore welcome your orders for this superb model of 92250 9F Class. Newly Tooled 3D Printed Chimney ‘Giesl Oblong Ejector’.

Presented in TMC Blue Leatherette box with numbered certificate of authenticity.

92250 was the 7331st and last steam locomotive built at Crewe Works, entering traffic on 16/12/58 with double chimney and then fitted with a Giesl Oblong Ejector for testing at Rugby in May 1959.  It was claimed that the Giesl Oblong Ejector would enable the use of low grade coal which was previously considered unsuitable. As a result of a significant increase in cylinder power due to the reduced back pressure at the blast pipe it was thought this coal could be utilised. This was to be the last in a series of ‘draughting appliances’ which over the years had included Kylala, Kylchap, LeMaitre etc. The results of the testing with the Giesl Oblong Ejector weren’t considered exceptional, therefor the rest of the class were not converted. However 92250 carried this unusual long thin smoke stack until withdrawal in December 1965, eventually being cut up at Newport in July 1966. Although a WR engine all its life it ventured off region, particularly with freight traffic to the South and West Midlands.
