These two wagons represent Double Bolster wagons which have been converted to Plate wagons. Their origins as Double Bolster Wagons is evident by the pockets on the solebar just above the axlebox where the bolsters would have been fixed the pockets being retained after conversion. E310418 was part of a batch of 100 built at Shildon in 1948/9 with welded sides and ends. It has split axleboxes with RCH W irons. It is thought that although this batch of 100 wagons was ordered as Double Bolster wagons and hence have the pockets mentioned above that they never actually had the bolsters fitted and were therefore Plate wagons when first entering service. In contrast B920098 was built at Wolverton in 1949 as and saw service as a Double Bolster wagon being converted to a Plate wagon some years later. This wagon also has welded sides and ends but has plate front axle boxes with solid W irons. Both wagons are modelled in freight grey livery and were still in service in this guise in the late 1970s.
