Details
Clark Railworks TT Gauge Presflo
The Clark Railworks TT Gauge Presflo is a superbly detailed model of one of British Railways’ most distinctive bulk powder wagons. At 1:120 scale, TT Gauge offers an excellent balance between compact size and fine detail, and these Presflos make the most of it.
Presflos are an excellent choice for recreating a wide range of British railway scenes from the mid-1950s through to the late 1980s. Although best known as cement carriers, the wagons were also used for transporting salt, clay, sand, alumina and powdered slate, making them a versatile addition to many TT Gauge layouts.
Their distinctive design was based around pneumatic discharge. The cargo was loaded through the top of the wagon and discharged from underneath using pressurised air, while the characteristic external ribs strengthened the bodyshell and helped prevent it collapsing as the wagon was emptied.
Most Presflos were finished in bauxite, although the striking yellow examples operated by Blue Circle in South West England provide an interesting alternative. Presflos also travelled well beyond their usual cement duties, appearing on the Ballachulish branch carrying alumina to Kinlochleven and even being attached to the rear of passenger trains on the Kyle line during the 1970s in connection with oil rig construction at Loch Kishorn.
These TT Gauge models cover Presflos built by Metro-Cammell, GRCW and the Butterley Iron Company, with each version featuring an impressive level of separately fitted detail.
