Details

The LMS Princess Royal Class 'Turbomotive' 6202 in crimson livery features a powerful precision motor with sprung metal buffers and is DCC ready with a 21-pin socket. HM7000 compatible, it comes complete with driver and fireman figures, lamps and a flanged rear pony truck wheelset.

Perfect for era 3 Grouping railway layouts (1923-1947), this distinctive locomotive showcases Sir William Stanier's innovative design approach.

History

This was the third prototype of the LMS Princess Royal Class, utilising the same frames as the rest of the class, but having steam turbines in place of conventional cylinders.

Completed at Crewe Works in June 1935, the locomotive was used on the West Coast Main Line express and proved to be more economical and eliminated hammer blow to the track. However, it was more complex to drive and when a turbine failure occured in 1949, it was laid up before being rebuilt as a conversional locomotive, numbered 46202 and named 'Princess Anne', in 1952.
