Rapido Trains UK today unveiled the latest addition to its expanding ‘Evolution’ range with all-new 'OO' Horseboxes, offering modellers an impressive selection of 27 liveried variants spanning the pre-grouping era through to British Railways ownership.

Based on a prototypical 16ft four-wheel design, the new models recreate the distinctive horseboxes once commonly seen transporting valuable horses to race meetings, auctions, military exercises and agricultural events across Britain’s railway network. Built to carriage-stock standards, the real vehicles were capable of running within passenger trains at speed and frequently travelled far from their home regions.

South Eastern & Chatham Railway-liveried No. 157 (SKU: 189001) is an ideal addition for 'Evolution' coaches of the same livery. The same goes for all proposed liveries.

The new Rapido range has been designed to complement the manufacturer’s highly regarded Evolution coach series, with liveries covering many major railway companies including the SECR, GWR, LNWR, LMS, SR, LNER and BR.

Rapido’s models feature extensive tooling variations to accurately reflect differences between prototypes, including alternative footboards, lighting fittings and body details. Each model includes a fully detailed Groom’s compartment complete with seating, luggage racks and internal doors.

One of the standout features is working interior lighting controlled using Rapido’s magnetic ‘magic wand’ system. A built-in potentiometer allows modellers to adjust lighting brightness to suit their layout or display preferences.

The London, Tilbury and Southend Railway addition (SKU: 829029) is a quirky 'left-field' addition we're enjoying.

Further specification highlights include separately fitted gas lamps and underframe plumbing where appropriate, NEM 362 coupling pockets, optional close-coupling bars, metal bearings for smooth running and alternative glazing parts allowing droplight windows to be modelled open or closed.

The models are currently in tooling and available to pre-order from us now for £33.96 each.

Alongside the new Horseboxes, Rapido has also announced a matching range of OO gauge Evolution Open Carriage Trucks, allowing modellers to recreate authentic pre-grouping passenger and goods formations in greater detail than ever before.
