This wagon is unusual as although not part of the departmental fleet it was painted Olive Green, at least 41 plate wagons were repainted this way for use as Barrier Wagons from the mid 1960's. Their purpose being to act as a barrier between the train engine and tank wagons carrying dangerous loads. They remained in use until the 1980's and carried the following lettering 'AIR PIPED BARRIER WAGON NOT TO BE USED FOR LOADED TRAFFIC'. Air pipes are included in the accessory bag with the model. B931873 was part of a batch completed at Shildon in 1953 and has welded sides and riveted ends with Plate Front Axleboxes and solid W irons.   NOTE: The last photo shows the wagon(s) fitted with a sample of our PWL1 load (available separately)
