Product Description

Between 1951 and 1956 BR Shildon built 43 plate wagons specifically for the Signal and Telegraph Department. They were originally distributed throughout the London Midland and Scottish regions. Livery was Engineers Black with Straw lettering, although during the 1960's repaints led to them appearing in other Engineers or non Standard liveries. DB997539 has welded sides and rivetted ends with plate front axle boxes and RCH  W irons. These wagons were coded WINKLE, this reference being to a small herbivorous shore-dwelling mollusc with a spiral shell also known as a periwinkle. The model is produced in pristine condition but TMC are able to produce custom deluxe weathered versions to make sure your WINKLE is unique.

NOTE: The last photo shows the wagon(s) fitted with a sample of our PWL1 load (available separately)
