During the 1970's BR repainted a number of plate wagons and branded them as Reach Wagons. A reach wagon allowed a loco to reach loading or unloading points for dangerous loads by being placed between the train loco and the load carrying wagons where it was considered too dangerous for the loco to shunt up to the loading/unloading point. Each wagon was given an allocated location, however pictorial evidence shows that they certainly did not stay in one place! TDB931937 was originally built at Shildon in 1953, has welded sides, riveted ends, plate front axle boxes and  solid W irons. This wagon was allocated to Hunslet Lane, Leeds but Paul Bartlett's photograph of the wagon taken at Grays in Essex demonstrates that the wagons moved around. Hunslet Lane has an interesting railway history being the terminus of the line from Derby to Leeds from 1840 to 1846 when it became a good depot which itself closed in the mid 1970's. It is now a retail park.   NOTE: The last photo shows the wagon(s) fitted with a sample of our PWL1 load (available separately)
